L.E.A.D.

I was in church on Sunday and the pastor spoke about what it really takes to LEAD a family. While he was explaining the simple steps to lead a family, all I could really think about was the similarities between leading a great family and what it takes to lead a growing business with Family Heritage.

In order to have a continually growing business you must follow 4 simple principles. You must LEAD:

The L stands for love. In order to keep your business growing you must be unconditionally committed to loving your agents where they are. They will continue to grow as long as you are unconditionally committed to their limitless growth.

The E stands for engaging your agents on a daily basis— making sure they have all the things they need to be successful. The things that they need are not always material, when you are truly engaged with someone you are present to their needs. The responsibility of a manager is not only monetary, but it’s an emotional connection as well. The ability to pay attention to someone has a cost, that is why the phrase is coined “Paying Attention.”

The A stands for affirmation. No matter how a day may turn out, listening and reminding the agent that “the process works” is going to help them wherever they are in the process. Choose to catch them doing something right in public and in private. “You can not microwave the system”. In the beginning it may be slow, but don’t microwave it. A growing agent or business will take time, but at the end of the day a home cooked meal always taste better.

The D stands for discipline. The discipline of staying the course and focusing on the process. Discipline is not about making things as hard as possible. It’s about doing the hard parts of things as soon as possible. So ask yourself this question, “Are you taking consistent action to create the possibilities you want to have?”

These steps are not easy, but they are simple. Form the habit of LEADing others and they will learn how to LEAD themselves and others too.
